PT Mandailing Coffee Prima became a registered company in Indonesia in January 1999 – trading under the name Mandailing Estate Coffee.Training

The Mandailing coffee estate is approximately 200 hectares in size and is located in Mandailing’s ideal coffee growing region - deep in the Sumatran jungle.

Mandailing Estate neighbors an additional 100 hectares of smaller, locally owned plantations that have developing Arabica coffee trees. All are overseen by PT Mandailing Coffee Prima.

Collectively, these farms are surrounded by virgin Sumatra rainforests which support an intense wildlife ecosystem. Orangutans, monkeys, tigers, cobras & civet cats.

Local responsibilities

As with most agricultural products in Indonesia, there is a long trading chain. There are at least three stages of trading between the smaller coffee producers and the exporter.

PT Mandailing Coffee Prima cuts out this high-cost trading chain and sells the beans directly to the exporter.

This benefits the smaller coffee producers of Mandailing, allowing a better price to be paid directly for their coffee and giving incentive to the villages to reestablish Arabica plantations, which once flourished in the region.

Agreements have been made with the leaders of local villages as to how much coffee the company can buy without disturbing the existing trade channels. It is a delicate area, which needs to be managed carefully and in a humble manner.
